Mural Created by the Youth GroupOccasionally our older young people have gone on to be young leaders within the groups and we support and encourage this however there is no pressure on them to do so!

The groups are fairly unique amongst church youth groups as the focus is less about religion and more about exploration, self development and relationships.  We are open to everyone from any faith or none.

We aim to provide a wide range of activities and experiences, which get more adventurous as the young people get older.  As they get older we try to encourage a sense of responsibility by allowing the young people to plan their own programme and actively encourage their interest in society and good causes.  We have run or been involved with a number of very successful campaigns including “Make Poverty History”, “Fairplay” (a campaign to promote the use of fairtrade footballs and sporting goods) and 10:10 (climate change).  On occasions we run activities which include all the groups these have included a very exciting "one off" tour of the new MediaCityUK TV Studios in Salford.

During August we often run "Summer Mondays" which are very popular days out for members of all 3 groups (and friends), these have included trips to: The Seaside; Theme Parks; Water Parks and Adventure Trails.

We try to take every young person’s viewpoint on board and encourage them to make up their own minds on matters of faith, belief and morals.  Our success is measured by how many young people keep coming to the groups, we believe that no other measure of success is healthy or desirable.  To this end we concentrate on delivering an enjoyable, challenging programme which is suitable for those of all abilities.

We pride ourselves on the way we cater for those with learning and physical difficulties and encourage young people to help each other with whatever difficulties they experience.

The leaders and helpers of all of the groups are volunteers and work closely together as a team in a “non-hierarchical” manner, in the same way as the group dynamics work for the young people we respect each others' differences and abilities and encourage leaders to be themselves.  Perhaps surprisingly for a church youth group, our leadership team do not all regularly attend Grove Lane services, and stem from a wide variety of faith backgrounds.

All of our leaders/helpers follow the Grove Lane “Safe to Grow” child protection policy and have been CRB checked to work with these groups.  There are often opportunities for adults to volunteer with our groups.
